ASEAN, China begin cultural exchange year

The 2014 ASEAN-China Cultural Exchange Year started in Beijing on April 7, with ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh and cultural deputy ministers from 10 ASEAN countries attending.
The 2014 ASEAN-China Cultural Exchange Year started in Beijing on April 7, with ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh and cultural deputy ministers from 10 ASEAN countries attending.

A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dang Thi Bich Lien was present at the event.

In his opening speech, Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong said this year is the start of the second decade since the forging of strategic partnership between China and ASEAN.
 
China hopes to deepen bilateral relations in people-to-people exchange, bringing citizens from the two sides closer, he said.

Myanmar Vice President Nyan Tun declared that as rotating ASEAN chair, her country will lift bilateral strategic partnership to a new level.

Nearly 150 events such as conferences, performances, exhibitions and cultural tours will be held throughout the year.

An exhibition of ASEAN – China costumes on April 8-17 will kick off the exchange year. A collection of traditional long dresses by Vietnamese designer Lan Huong is also on display.-VNA
