Economic ministers of ASEAN countries considered the implementation of development projects in the Mekong river basin at the 13th Ministerial Meeting of the ASEAN-Mekong Basin Development Cooperation (AMBDC) that took place in Manado, Indonesia, on August 12.
This year’s AMBDC saw the presence of Deputy Secretary-General Pumin Li of China’s National Development and Reform Commission.
The ministers emphasised the need for the synchronous implementation of activities under the Singapore-Kunming Rail Link (SKRL) project and those of the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC).
They agreed that the SKRL is one of the many key actions under the MPAC and encouraged the Special Working Group on the SKRL to coordinate closely with the ASEAN Connectivity Coordinating Committee (ACCC).
According to reports at the meeting, of the 51 projects under the AMBDC, 37 projects have already taken off and are already at different levels of implementation, while 14 are calling for funding totalling 272.5 million USD.
AMBDC projects cover infrastructure, trade and investment, agriculture, forestry, minerals, industry, tourism, human resource development, as well as science and technology.
The previous AMBDC Ministerial Meeting was held on August 27, 2010 in Vietnam’s central coastal city of Da Nang. The next meeting will be held in Cambodia in late August next year./.
