ASEAN insurance regulators on December 6 held a plenary meeting with representatives from the business sector.
The dialogue, within the framework of the 16 th ASEAN Insurance Regulators Meeting (ARIM) underway in the central city of Da Nang from December 4-6, allows regulators and businesspeople to consult each other, thus figuring out appropriate policies addressing challenges facing the region’s business sector.
At the meeting, the representatives from the business sector - the ASEAN Insurance Council (AIC), ASEAN Insurance Education Committee (AIEC) and ASEAN Natural Disasters Research Works Sharing (ANDREWS) - were informed of the outcomes of ASEAN insurance regulators’ working sessions two days previously, which focused on the implementation of ASEAN Finance Ministers’ decisions and the development and challenges facing the regional insurance sector.
They then made proposals to AIRM on accelerating interaction and partnerships in the upcoming year.
The proposals paid heed to improving insurance workforce training, setting up achievable goals for the business sector in coping with increasing natural disasters, and recommending Public-Private Partnership improvement so as to propel micro insurance.-VNA
