Japanese Vice Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Takamori Yoshizawa has spoken highly of the fruitful cooperation between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Japan in food and agricultural sectors.

At a meeting with ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh in Jakarta , Indonesia , on January 24, he highlighted Japan ’s high interest in forging cooperation with the ten-member group in agriculture, especially in human resource development.

He reflected on a symposium on human resource development in food-related areas through the partnership with ASEAN universities organised by the ministry in January 21, 2014, as part of activities to mark the 40 th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan friendship and cooperation.

In reply, Minh noted his appreciation of the partnership with Japan in agriculture and food security. He also expressed his gratitude for Japan ’s support towards the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve and the ASEAN Food Security Information System.

Minh acknowledged the important role of human resource development in agriculture as the key channel for enhancing ASEAN-Japan relations through promoting mutual beneficial cooperation in agricultural and economic sectors.-VNA
