ASEAN, Japan to go on with trade facilitation

ASEAN and Japanese trade experts have pledged to continue discussing the adjustment of regulations on certificates of product origins to enable the two sides’ businesses to get access to each other’s market.
ASEAN and Japanese trade experts have pledged to continue discussing the adjustment of regulations on certificates of product origins to enable the two sides’ businesses to get access to each other’s market.

The pledge was made at the 3rd meeting of the Joint Committee on ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Partnership held in Tokyo from June 7-10.

At the meeting, the experts reviewed the implementation of the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP) Framework Agreement that was signed by the two sides on April 14, 2008, targeting to set up an ASEAN-Japan free trade zone by 2018.

In addition, for the first time, they have discussed agreements on trade, service and investment between the two sides.

So far, Japan has signed bilateral trade and service agreements with seven ASEAN member countries, including Vietnam . It also inked bilateral agreements on investment with nine ASEAN countries, excluding Myanmar./.
