ASEAN labour inspectors meet in the Philippines

The fourth Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Labor Inspection Conference opened in the Philippines on July 3.
The fourth Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Labor Inspection Conference opened in the Philippines on July 3.

The two-day conference will examine ASEAN good practices on laborinspection, training and capacity building for labor inspectors, andchallenges and solutions to inspection and emerging issues.

Inher opening remark, Secretary of the Filipino Department of Labor andEmployment (DOLE) Rosalinda Baldoz said event is meant to promoteregional partnerships and strengthen the network of labor inspectorateswithin the bloc.

It is also intended to develop laborinspection guidelines for local workers and migrant-reliant sectors,which would serve as a benchmark for the ASEAN member states to betterprotect and promote the rights and welfare of local and migrant workersthrough labor inspections.

Particular challenges related towork sector, age, and legal status of migrants and local workers willalso come up for discussion, she said.

The first conference of this kind was held in Ha Long city, the northern province of Quang Ninh in October 2010.-VNA

Indian airline launches direct Mumbai–Hanoi route

The new route operates four flights a week and is the first direct Mumbai–Hanoi service operated by an Indian airline. Hanoi has become Akasa Air’s seventh international destination and its second destination in Southeast Asia, after Phuket, Thailand.

Indonesia breaks ground on waste-to-energy plant

The project is the second PSEL facility undertaken by investment management agency Danantara Indonesia, following the PSEL project in Bali, construction of which began in July. It is part of the environmentally friendly waste treatment programme under Presidential Decree No. 109/2025.
