Delegates of women agencies from 10 ASEAN member states are gathering at the 11 th meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Women (ACW 11) in the capital city Vientiane of Laos which opened on October 16 to discuss women-related issues.
With the theme of strengthening gender prospect and partnership among ASEAN women for sustainable environment, the meeting makes preparations for the 1st ASEAN Ministers’ Meeting on Women which is scheduled to take place in Vientiane on October 19.
Addressing the opening session, Bundith Prathounvanh, Vice Chairwoman of the Lao Women Association, called on ACW members to work together in the spirit of cooperation and friendship, contributing to the join efforts in building the ASEAN Community, especially the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, by 2015.
During the two-day meeting, representatives will review the implementation of the Action Plan of ASEAN Women in the 2011-2015 period, the Action Plan of realising the ASEAN Socio-Economic Community relating to women and the implementation of tasks approved at the 10 th ACW in Indonesia in 2011.
They will also report on women-related activities in their respective countries and discuss the ACW’s Action Plan in the 2011-2015 period, especially the environmental matters, narrowing gap on gender inequality, promoting women’s role in leadership and other issues for women’s advancement.
The outcomes of the meeting will be submitted to the 4 th ACW+3 and the 1 st ASEAN Ministers’ Meeting on Women.-VNA
