Phnom Penh (VNA) – Vietnam’s athletics team on June 7 secured an additional eight gold medals at the 12th ASEAN Para Games, which is taking place in Cambodia.

Swimmer Trinh Thi Bich Nhu brought home two golds in women’s Butterfly S6 and 100-metre breaststroke SB5 events. 

The same day, Vietnamese swimmers also obtained three golds in men's 50m butterfly S8, men's 100m breaststroke SB5 and women's 100m breaststroke SB4.

The other three were earned by Kieu Minh Trung in the men’s F55 javelin throw, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy in the women’s discus throw F54 and Dinh Thao Duyen in women’s long jump

As of 1pm on June 7, the Vietnamese sports delegation bagged 47 gold, 44 silver and 65 bronze medals, ranking third in the medal tally.

The Vietnamese sports delegation to the event consists of 164 members, including 122 athletes, who are competing in eight out of 13 sports at the tournament, namely track-and-field, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, and boccia.

Vietnam aims to win 50-55 gold medals and named among the top four countries on the medal tally at the event./.
