ASEAN peace institute convenes first meeting

The ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (AIPR) held its first Governing Council meeting at the ASEAN Secretariat’s headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia, on December 10 to discuss its operation plan.
The ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (AIPR) held its first Governing Council meeting at the ASEAN Secretariat’s headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia, on December 10 to discuss its operation plan.

Also on the discussion were the recruitment of an Executive Director, funding, and a reporting mechanism of the AIPR.

The AIPR was established on May 8, 2011 based on the ASEAN Political-Security Community Blueprint, as an effort to further peace, security and reconciliation in the region.

The institute’s current Chairperson is Brunei’s Ambassador to ASEAN Emaleen Adbul Rahman Teo, and its members include the delegation heads of the bloc’s member states to ASEAN.

Vietnam’s representative to the AIPR is Ambassador Vu Dang Dung, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to ASEAN.-VNA
