Deputy Head of the Ministry of Public Security’s Police General Department Do Kim Tuyen is participating in the 35th ASEAN Chiefs of Police Conference (ASEANAPOL), which kicked off in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 4. 

Together with officers from the 10 ASEAN member countries, the conference is also being attended by representatives from the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the group’s dialogue partners and observers, including Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, New Zealand, Russia, the UK and Turkey. 

Addressing the opening ceremony, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla spoke highly of the role of ASEAN nations’ police forces in maintaining a peaceful environment in each country and the whole region. 

He emphasised the need for bilateral and multilateral cooperation mechanisms and to share experience and intelligence information to raise the operation efficiency of police in the region when dealing with hi-tech and trans-national crimes. 

During the three-day event, participants are expected to discuss measures and share experiences to intensify collaboration between ASEAN member countries in combating crimes, especially cross-border violations, and address new challenges in ensuring regional security. 

ASEAN Chiefs of Police will approve and sign a joint statement demonstrating the determination and commitment of the police forces of ASEAN members to enhance their capacity in crime prevention.-VNA
