ASEAN police conference begins in Cambodia

The 30 th ASEANAPOL (Association of Southeast Asian Nations Chiefs of Police) conference kicked off in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh on May 25.
The 30 th ASEANAPOL (Association of Southeast Asian Nations Chiefs of Police) conference kicked off in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh on May 25.

The conference, chaired by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Sar Kheng, aims to strengthen cooperation and mutual assistance between the police forces of the ten ASEAN member countries and their partners.

Nearly 300 senior police officers from ASEAN countries and their partner countries, including China , Japan , the Republic of Korea , Australia and New Zealand , along with representatives of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat and the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) attended the event.

High on the agenda at the conference will be measures to deal with terrorism, drugs and weapons trafficking, maritime fraud, cybercrime and other transnational crimes.

It will also focus on how to step up relations between ASEANAPOL and Interpol and the setting up of an electronic ASEANAPOL database system (e-ADS).

During the conference, Cambodia ’s Prime Minister Hun Sen will receive various ASEANAPOL delegations.
