The opening matches of the ASEAN Open Football Tournament 2012 took place in Ho Chi Minh City on August 22.

Hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, the tournament attracted five football teams from the police forces of Vietnam , Laos , Thailand , Cambodia and Australia .

The event aims to mark the 67 th anniversary of National Day and the founding of the Vietnam People’s Public Security.

According to Deputy Minister of Public Security Bui Quang Ben, the tournament will provide public security forces of ASEAN nations with the opportunity to exchange and further strengthen their cooperation in fighting crimes and ensuring social security and order.

The event will also help to intensify understanding and solidarity between regional security forces with that of Australia , Ben said.

The teams are competing in round-robin format to find the winner one.

In the opening day, Cambodia ’s team won 2-1 in their first match against the Lao team and Vietnam ’s team was defeated 0-1 by Thailand ’s.-VNA
