The Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations(VUFO), Tran Dac Loi, has expressed a hope for strong and in-depthdevelopment of people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and otherASEAN members, and the whole bloc.
Loi made thestatement at a meeting with ASEAN diplomatic corps held in Hanoi onAugust 6 to mark the 43 rd anniversary of the founding of theAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
ASEAN was set up with the aim of promoting socio-cultural and economiccooperation among its members and facilitating further integration intothe region and the world.
During 43 years of thebloc’s development, the ASEAN group of 10 nations has proven to be anactive regional organisation which is adaptable to regional and worldchanges, Loi said.
ASEAN’s role and position arerising on the international arena and it has become an importanteconomic and political bloc in the Asia-Pacific and an important centreof the world, he said.
At present, the ASEAN Community is scheduled to be established in 2015 and to operate under the ASEAN Charter.
Foreign ambassadors and diplomatic corps representatives expressedtheir belief that these objectives will turn into reality with the jointefforts of ASEAN governments and people.
Loitook the occasion to highlight Vietnam ’s considerable contributionsto the association, particularly in its capacity as ASEAN Chair in 2010./.
