The ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (AIPR) launched its symposium publication in Myanmar’s capital Nay Pyi Taw on August 8, according to a press release.

ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh congratulated the members of the Governing Council and the AIPR Advisory Board for the publication of the “Symposium on Peace and Reconciliation Processes and Initiatives.”

He noted that ASEAN was formed 47 years ago "at the height of the Cold War and amidst all the tensions among its own member countries.”

"It is a telling story of our aspiration for peace and our determination to build and maintain peace in the region. Our commitment to, and action for peace, proved to be a sound investment for the region,” he said.

“We deserve an applaud, not just for AIPR, but for all of us, for persevering despite challenges and continuing to learn from each other the worth of peace and stability," he added.

The ASEAN Secretary-General also urged AIPR to continue to explore and consider new ways with which to strengthen this commitment for the benefit of present and future generations of ASEAN peoples.
