Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – The ASEAN Student Council has organised a conference to inspire the region’s youth to protect the environment, combat corruption and be good citizens.

Kasetsart University hosted the ASEAN Student Council conference, which brought together students from universities across ASEAN and China. The aim of the event was to inspire social responsibility and honesty.

Vice Dean for Student Affairs at Kasetsart University, Asst. Prof Wing Cmd Ngamlamai Piwluang outlined that the program began in 2017 when the university signed Memorandums of Understanding with over 100 other institutions throughout ASEAN. The latest conference saw the signing of a declaration to drive ASEAN and the world in 2019 with a focus on environmentalism, honesty and being a good global citizen.

President of the council at Kasetsart University, Kantawat Thanasirikul remarked that as Thailand is the ASEAN Chair for 2019, there will be many programs for students and youths to take part in and to pursue agendas such as the No Plastic programme, which has already been adopted by the university’s own convenience stores.

With Thailand also heading for a general election, the council has joined hands with King Prajadhipok’s Institute to undertake training of new voters, instructing them on the voting system and their civic duties. – NNT/VNA
