ASEAN information ministers have emphasised the necessity to boost and expand information cooperation within the group and with the group’s dialogue partners - China , Japan and the Republic of Korea in order to promote mutual understanding.

Information ministers from ASEAN countries held their first ever meeting with counterparts from the three dialogue partners (AMRI+3) in Vientiane, Laos, on Nov. 6, as part of the 10th meeting of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI-10).

They affirmed that information plays an important role in connecting communities and helping promote mutual understanding and cooperation between ASEAN people and friends in the region and the world.

At the meeting, China proposed raising the level of information cooperation and exchange and the quality of exchanged information.

Meanwhile, Japan expressed willingness to assist ASEAN member countries technically in switching to digital television to better information quality.

The RoK tabled proposals relating joint cooperation in making television and radio broadcasting programmes, exchanging reporters, cooperating in translation activities and making movies./.
