The business forum on telecommunications among ASEAN sub-regional countries including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam opened on December 10 in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa.

This is the fourth forum of its kind to be held ahead of the up-coming ASEAN sub-region Telecom Ministerial Meeting in the ASEAN sub-region, titled “Information Technology-Communications and global economic crisis: Turning Challenges into Opportunities”.

ASEAN sub-regional businesses are expected to discuss issues related to information technology, communications and sustainable development. The forum will also focus on creating favourable business environment and building capacity for human resources.

Other issues such as developing and exploiting 3G service, satellite television, friendly environmental telecommunications technology and infrastructure improvement are also expected to be dealt with at the meeting.

All proposals at the forum will be submitted to the four countries’ managing agencies and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

Vietnam ’s Post and Telecommunications Group, the forum chair, will reveal some contents to be discussed at the ministerial meeting, scheduled to be held in Nha Trang on Dec. 11 and 12./.
