The ASEAN is planning a series of activities to boost external relations on the sidelines of the on-going 66 th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The ASEAN Secretariat and the Indonesia Foreign Ministry on Sept. 22 announced that the informal ASEAN Ministers’ Meeting will be held in New York on Sept. 24 under the chair of Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa.

The meeting will discuss several issues of concerns by ASEAN and the UN, especially the role of conciliation in settlement of disputes by peaceful solutions and the maintenance of peace.

Ministers will discuss measures to better coordinate the agendas of ASEAN and the UN, reflecting the increasing role of the ASEAN at international forums, especially the UN.

In addition, the ASEAN General Secretary plans to meet with the UN General Secretary and the President of the 66 th session on Sept. 27.

A meeting between ASEAN and the Guft Cooperation Council is scheduled for Sept. 23 and another meeting with the open Rio Group will take place on Sept. 27./.
