Hanoi (VNA) - The 2nd ASEAN Young Diplomats Exchange Programme is taking place both in face-to-face and online forms on December 9 – 10.

The event is jointly organised by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) Central Committee, the Vietnam National Committee on Youth, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

In his opening speech, Secretary of the HCYU Central Committee and Standing Vice Chairman of the National Committee on Youth of Vietnam Nguyen Ngoc Luong emphasised the need for cooperation of countries in general and young people in particular to deal with climate change, poverty, and especially the COVID-19 pandemic.

He expressed the hope that participants will propose effective and appropriate solutions and initiatives towards repelling the COVID-19 pandemic and building a prosperous ASEAN Community.

At the programme’s first plenary session, delegates reviewed the results of ASEAN youth cooperation in 2021, priorities for youth cooperation within ASEAN member nations and ASEAN in the coming time, and measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure employment and social security for vulnerable groups.

Meanwhile, the second plenary session will focus on initiatives of network of doctors in response to COVID-19 in Vietnam, volunteering activities in the context of the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia-Pacific.

Delegates will also share and discuss challenges facing ASEAN youth in the context of the pandemic in a debate in groups, thus coming up with proposals or solutions to support them in addressing post-pandemic difficulties./.
