Energy ministers from ASEAN member countries and their counterparts from China, Japan and the Republic of Korea gathered in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on September 12 to discuss measures for ensuring the sustainable energy development for the region.
The ASEAN+3 Energy Ministers’ Meeting on Energy was co-chaired by Cambodian Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy Suy Sem; Deputy Administrator of China' s National Energy Administration Wu Yin; Japanese Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Keiro Kitagami; and Deputy Minister of Knowledge Economy of the Republic of Korea Lee Kwansup.
Speaking at the event, Suy Sem said that the meeting will help strengthen and expand cooperation between ASEAN and its dialogue partners in promoting clean energy development in ASEAN.
For his part, Keiro Kitagami said that as a country responsible for supervising the energy security forum, Japan will continue to make active contributions to enhancing cooperation within the ASEAN+3 framework.
Tokyo wants to resolve all energy-related challenges together with ASEAN countries, he added.
According to Wu Yin, China wishes to step up dialogue and cooperation on energy resources, technology, services, policy and energy security with ASEAN+3 member countries as well as solve all differences through mutual understanding with regard to bilateral interests.-VNA
