The ASEAN-China Ministerial Dialogue on Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation took place in Beijing on October 23 on the theme of “Security for Prosperity”.

The dialogue aimed to reach common perceptions, create new cooperation methods, and complete cooperation mechanisms to proactively cope with any development and newly-arising challenges in the region’s security issue, thus contributing to creating a peaceful and stable environment in the region.

Addressing the opening session, Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang said that the world and the Asia-Pacific region in particular are facing new challenges that threaten security and interests of nations, requiring their law enforcement agencies to coordinate more closely and timely carry out measures to ensure a peaceful and happy life of each nation and for peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world.

He appreciated existing cooperation mechanisms between law enforcement agencies of ASEAN countries, between ASEAN and its partners and dialogue partners, including the ASEAN-China ministerial meeting on cross-border crime prevention.

He expressed hope that these mechanisms will continue working effectively in the time ahead.

The Vietnamese minister went on to say that Vietnam pledges to do its utmost and collaborate with other ASEAN countries and partners and dialogue partners in sharing information and experience to effectively combat organised trans-national criminals and deal with new security challenges.-VNA
