Beijing (VNA) – The ASEAN-China Year of Media Exchanges kicked off at a ceremony held in the Chinese capital city of Beijing on February 20 evening.

In a congratulatory message, Chinese President Xi Jinping underlined that the launch of the ASEAN-China Year of Media Exchanges represents an important move toward intensifying the strategic partnership.

The President stressed that acting as a bridge in promoting communication, cooperation and people-to-people contacts, the media can play an even greater role in the development of China-ASEAN ties.

He voiced his hope that media from both sides could serve as messengers of friendly exchanges, facilitators of pragmatic cooperation, peace and development, making a greater contribution to the building of the China-ASEAN community.

At the ceremony, Politburo member and head of the Communist Party of China Central Committee’s Publicity Department Huang Kunming called on media organisations of China and ASEAN to expand and tap potential in cooperation in the spirit of friendly negotiation, equality and mutual benefit.

Meanwhile, representatives of ASEAN nations spoke highly of the two sides' media cooperation and voiced their hope to further boost exchanges, thus contributing to the enhancement of bilateral relations.

The media of both sides will launch a diverse of policies and exchange activities in the year, such as the ASEAN-China television week and the ASEAN-China film week and a programme to jointly produce movies and TV series.-VNA
