Senior officials from ASEAN and Russia have approved a plan on cooperation in energy between the two sides till 2015 at the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME) with Russia in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, on July 21.

At the meeting, the first of its kind so far, the participants agreed to further boost cooperation between the two sides.

Russia proposed three activities for ASEAN-Russia cooperation on energy, alternative energy and clean energy technology in 2010: building a network of experts on analysis and consultancy on alternative energy, organising a seminar on nuclear energy for civil purpose and a Russia-ASEAN economic conference plus an exhibition on energy.

The participants agreed on the organisation of the economic conference and the exhibition and agreed in principle on the remaining activities. They asked the Russian side to work with the ASEAN Secretariat on the implementation of those activities.

The meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME) and Russia was under the framework of the 28th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM 28), taking place from July 19-23./.
