ASEAN-US summit slated for mid-November
The ASEAN-US Summit to be held in
Singapore in Nov. 15 will focus its discussions on non-proliferation of
nuclear weapons, disaster management, A/H1N1 flu control, climate
change and anti-terrorism, a Thai official said on Nov. 3.

The summit is scheduled to follow the meeting of the leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC) in Singapore on Nov. 14 and 15 and will be co-chaired by US President Barack Obama and Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, said Boosara Kanchanalai, Director of Division 4 of the Thai Foreign Ministry’s ASEAN Affairs Department.
Also at the summit, ASEAN and the US are expected to discuss the ASEAN-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA) proposed by Senator Richard Lugar.
The ASEAN-US Summit was first planned for September 2007 but then-president George W. Bush called it off at the last minute due to his tight schedule at home./.
