The second Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) conference ended on May 27 in the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta, adopting a declaration on important cooperation and global issues.

Dian Wirengjurit from the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said the Yogyakarta Declaration covers the mutual assistance commitments of Asian and European countries for mutual benefits, efforts to achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and climate change issue.

Although the two-day conference’s declaration is non-legally binding to ASEM countries, it serves one of foundations for the third ASEM summit scheduled for October this year in Brussels , Belgium .

The first ASEM development conference was held in April, 2009 in Manila , the Philippines .

ASEM forum convenes 43 countries, including 10 ASEAN member nations and their six partners, 27 European Union member nations, and the ASEAN Secretariat./.
