ASEM members vow to support Haiyan victims

Member countries of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) conveyed their condolences to the Philippines and Vietnam over the great human and property losses caused by super typhoon Haiyan during the ongoing 11th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, India.
Member countries of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) conveyed their condolences to the Philippines and Vietnam over the great human and property losses caused by super typhoon Haiyan during the ongoing 11th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, India.

The Indonesian Foreign Minister, together with other heads of ASEAN delegations at the event, called on ASEM members to help the Governments and people of the two countries get through the difficult time.

At the meeting, many ASEM member countries announced their aid packages to the Philippines and affirmed their willingness to assist Vietnam when required.

The solidarity and support for Vietnamese and Philippine people will be added in the meeting’s joint statement.

Addressing the event, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc expressed thanks to ASEM members and announced Vietnam’s assistance to the Philippines.

Super typhoon Haiyan, the strongest cyclone of this year, made landfall over central Philippine localities on November 8. It is feared that casualties from the typhoon could reach 10,000, mostly in Tacloban city. Another 4.4 million people are facing homelessness after their houses were destroyed in the disaster.-VNA
