The 7th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting (ASEP-7) wrapped up in Vientiane on October 4 after working for two days.
Participants discussed the issues of strengthening food security, strengthening cooperation in addressing public debt, as well as mobilising every resource and increasing public participation in disaster management. The meeting also admitted four new members to ASEP, including Australia , Myanmar , New Zealand , and Russia and agreed that the next ASEP meeting, ASEP-8, will be held in Europe in 2014.
The ASEP-7 issued a 37-point declaration which noted that ASEP parliamentarians always support important activities of the Asia-Europe Summit Meeting (ASEM), especially those of the Lao Government in the preparation for the ASEM-9, which is scheduled to take place in Vientiane from November 5-6.
At the closing session, President of the ASEP-7 Pany Yathotou, who is also Lao National Assembly Chairwoman, said that the meeting contributes to further intensifying mutual understanding and the cooperation between Asian and European parliamentarians.-VNA
