Bangkok ( VNA/ NNT) – Bangkok is hosting the 12th Asia Pacific Orchid Conference (APOC 12) to offer a platform for international experts to share their knowledge and views on the development of orchids in their respective countries.

More than 300 participants from 19 countries are taking part in APOC 12 , which is being held at Impact Forum Convention, Muang Thong Thani. The conference began in 1984 and takes place every three years.

APOC 12 features an orchid exhibition, lectures by local and foreign specialists, a paper presentation by orchid researchers, and field trips to orchid-growing provinces. The event will continue until March 27.

Director-General of the Department of Agriculture Somchai Channarongkul spoke about the development of new orchid strains in Thailand and the success of its domestic orchid industry.

As for the current drought crisis, Somchai revealed that experts had been sent to affected provinces to advise orchid growers to conserve water and keep a close watch on organic contaminants in the water.-VNA
