Asia remains Vietnam’s major rice market this year

Asia continues to become the potential market of Vietnam’s rice exports this year, especially Malaysia and the Philippines, according to the Vietnam market analysis and forecast joint stock company.

In 2009, Vietnam’s rice exportsto other Asian countries accounted for 61.68 percent of the country’srice export turnover with more than half of the Asia’s market sharebelonging to the Philippines, which was followed by Malaysia with 9percent.

A recent report released by the US Department of Agriculture statedthat Asia’s demand for rice imports will stand at 14.8 million tonnesin 2010, a year-on-year increase of 7 percent over 2009.

The main import markets include Iraq, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Malaysia, the report said./.

Domestic consumption up over 13%, tourism continues strong growth

The total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenues in August were estimated at 679.8 trillion VND (26 billion USD), up 1.6% from the previous month and 14.9% year-on-year. In the January-August period, the figure reached 5.24 quadrillion VND, representing a 13.3% increase year-on-year.

Hanoi moves to maintain appeal to FDI inflows

In the first eight months of 2026, the capital city attracted more than 3.7 billion USD in FDI, equivalent to 83% of the plan set for the year. Newly registered FDI exceeded 572 million USD across 450 projects, up 175.78% in project numbers and 209.46% in capital compared to the same period last year.
