Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Committee for Asian - African - Latin America Solidarity and Cooperation under the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) held a seminar in Hanoi on October 28 to review its development over the last six decades.

The event was also to mark 60 years since the organisation’s establishment and the 50th founding anniversary of the Organisation of Solidarity with the People of Asia , Africa and Latin America.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Committee Pham Van Chuong stressed the organisation’s formation has closely associated with the development of struggle movements in Asian, Africa and Latin American countries, which helped promote solidarity to regain and safeguard national rights and democracy in the second half of 20th century.

With support of the Committee and O rganisation as well as their member organisations , Vietnam’s solidarity committees were successfully in connecting Vietnamese people’s struggle with solidarity movements of people in Asian, Africa and Latin American countries and other areas, contributing to forming a large front of people worldwide baking Vietnam’s resistance war against the US.

Pham Tien Tu, Vice Chairman of the Committee, highlighted the significance of the event, saying that it offers a chance to show deep gratitude to people in Asia, Africa and Latin America for their solidarity and great support for Vietnam over the last 50 years.

He believed that the two organisations will continue to make important contributions to struggles of people across the world for peace, national independence and democracy and social progress.

Participants to the event heard reports on activities of several movements in Asia, Africa and Latin America.-VNA
