Asian-African Conference 2015 commences in Jakarta

The Asian-African Conference (AAC) 2015 opened in Jakarta, Indonesia on April 22 to promote “the spirit of Bandung” and boost economic development on both continents through strengthened South-South cooperation.

Attendants to the two-dayconference include heads of government and state and prepresentativesfrom 109 countries and 25 international organisations worldwide.

President Truong Tan Sang will attend plenary sessions and bilateralmeetings in Jakarta, the commemoration of the 60 th anniversary of theAAC and the launching ceremony of the Asia-Africa Monument in Bandungcity.

In his opening speech, IndonesianPresident Joko Widodo said that many challenges facing Asian and Africancountries have remained unaddressed since the first AAC 60 years ago.

Themed “Strengthening South-South cooperation topromote world peace and prosperity”, this year’s AAC is focusing itsdiscussions on a number of key issues, ranging from the support for anindependent Palestine to the creation of new economic cooperation modelstowards sustainable development in the two continents.

The meeting is expected to produce three main documents: the BandungMessage, Declaration of Re-invigorating New Asia-Africa StrategicPartnership and Declaration on Palestine.-VNA
