Around 100 journalists and management of the media industry from Europe and Asia-Pacific convened in Amsterdam, the Netherlands from Nov. 9-10 for a conference to promote understanding of media issues and enhance world cooperation.

The Vietnamese delegation to the 3rd Asia-Pacific and Europe Media Dialogue was led by Deputy Director of the Radio Voice of Vietnam, Hoang Minh Nguyet.

Participants at the dialogue discussed a wide variety of issues, including the media and press responsibility, reporting climate change and natural disasters, the increasing level of citizens’ participation in media and the media’s role in harnessing social dialogue to reduce cultural conflicts.

They stressed that media and communication are effective tools to improve people’s understanding and improve harmony among different nations and races, taking into account the fact that the diversity in culture, languages, religions, life styles and races, while contributing to a richer society, is a common cause of social conflicts.

The participants also agreed that content sharing and co-production will contribute to improving the creation and dissemination of news and information as well as reducing production costs given the shrinking budget and revenues from advertisement.

The Asia-Pacific and Europe Media Dialogue has become an important forum over the last three years.

The Radio Voice of Vietnam has been asked to host the Asian media summit in 2011 in the light of its active participation in the Asia-Pacific and Europe dialogue./.
