The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) wrapped up its fourth plenary meeting in Indonesia ’s Bandung city on Dec. 10 with the admission of two new members – the Indian and Kazakhstani parliaments.

At the final session of the three-day meeting, the participants adopted the “Bandung Statement”, which dealt mostly with the promotion of democracy, human rights, climate change and the role of Asian parliaments in creating peace and justice in the region.

Also adopted was a resolution regarding the situation of Palestine that included opinions concerning the wording of the formal statement from delegates of the Republic of Korea , Singapore and Russia .

APA has so far had 41 parliament members and 18 parliamentary observers.

The Indonesian Parliament took the APA chairmanship in 2008 and 2009.

The APA’s fifth meeting will take place in Syria in 2010./.
