A number of draft resolutions and efforts to enhance cooperation among Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) members were high on the agenda of the two-day meeting of the APA Executive Council in Jakarta , Indonesia.

The meeting, which opened on Aug. 11, discussed the integration of the Asian energy market, anti-corruption, hunger eradication and poverty reduction in Asia , environment, globalisation and healthcare.

The participants also debated the cooperation among Asian nations in coping with the global economic meltdown.

Chief of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Board at the Indonesian House of Representatives Abdillah Toha said that his country plans to call on Asian nations to enhance anti-terrorism cooperation at the meeting which drew the participation of 56 representatives from 39 APA member countries.

The APA was born in 2006 at the seventh session of the Association of Asian Parliamentary for Peace (AAPP). The bloc aims to boost cooperation among Asian parliaments for world peace. Indonesia will hold the chairmanship of the APA until 2010./.
