Ottawa (VNA) –
The 20th Asia-Pacific Chiefs of Defence Conference is taking place in Canada on September 4-6 under the theme “The Future Security Environment: Challenges, Complexity and Cooperation”.

Participants discussed emerging trends of population, economy, environment, society, science and technology in the Indian Ocean and Asia-Pacific regions as well as prevention of extremism and violence, and peace support activities.

Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. General Phan Van Giang, who is also Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the conference.

The trip was made at the invitation of Admiral Harry. B. Harris, Commander of the US Pacific Command, and General Jonathan. H. Vance, Chief of the Defence Staff of Canada.

Vietnam’s attendance at the event affirmed the country’s role and position in the region and the world through bilateral and multilateral forums on military and national defence.

It also contributes to asserting Vietnam’s foreign policy of multilateralisation and diversification of relations, as well as its active, proactive and responsible international integration.-VNA
