The 13th conference of judicial heads in Asia and the Pacific will be held in Ho Chi Minh City from Nov. 9-12, according to a press briefing on Nov. 6.

At the briefing, Dang Quang Phuong, the Deputy Chief Justice from the Supreme People’s Court said that nearly 80 heads of justice, judges and specialists from the supreme and provincial-level courts of 29 regional countries and territories will attend the conference.

Their discussions will focus on the development of courts and judicial reform, the enhancing of operations in lower and appeal courts, the independence of courts in legal procedures and the role of chiefs of justice.

Phuong said that Vietnam will join in discussions on the central role of courts in Vietnam’s judicial reforms and Vietnam’s experiences in putting together a judge’s handbook of guidelines.

The conference is held biennially in rotation and aims to create opportunities for regional judges to meet and exchange information and their experiences.

As a rule, the conference coincides with the Law Association for Asia and the Pacific’s (LAWASIA) conference. The justice chiefs will attend several events at the LAWASIA conference related to judicial operations./.
