At the conference which ended on June 21, participating countries including Australia , China , Japan , India , Singapore , the Republic of Korea , Malaysia , Pakistan and Indonesia agreed on a number of terms to set up a civil aviation commission for the Asia-Pacific region.
Indonesian Transportation Deputy Minister Bambang Susantono said the proposal was made due to the significance of regional aviation market, which currently accounts for about one third of global flight passengers.
According to the ministry’s Air Transportation Director Djoko Murjaatmodjo, the global economic crisis does not affect flights in the region as populus Asian countries like China , India and Indonesia have relatively big domestic markets.
The proposal will be submitted to ICAO by the end of this year.
Other ICAO regional organisations have already come into existence such as AFCAC in Africa, LACAC in Latin America, and ECAC in Europe.-VNA
