Hanoi attracted many huge projects in August, with a total investment of 5.4 trillion VND (over 302 million USD), the municipal statistics department has reported.

Worthy of note are two projects situated in the Hoa Lac High-tech Zone.

Half of the total investment or 2.69 trillion VND injected into the city this month, will focus on a project to build the FPT university on a site of 30 hectares. The university, designed by the Japan-based Nihon Sekkei Company, is scheduled to be completed by 2015, after six years of construction.

Other major project worth nearly 1.5 trillion VND is to build a laboratory on a site of 25 hectares, by the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group’s (Vinashin) Shipping Technology Science Institute. The laboratory, which will include a testing area for scale models of ships, will be built from now until 2013.

It is intended to become the national centre for researching hydrodynamics and the aerodynamics of ships. The centre is expected to be the largest in the region for testing industrial technologies, and will meet the demands for international integration, especially as the country is keen to become a member of the International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC).

Also in August, the capital for urban development is estimated to have reached over 2.01 trillion VND, 89 percent of last year’s figure and an increase of over 10 percent when compared with last month’s disbursement./.
