An exhibition highlighting Vietnam’s culture is being held in Narrogin city, Western Australia, as part of activities to celebrate the 41 st anniversary of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic ties.

On display are contemporary paintings and calligraphy works, traditional pottery and water puppets, and typical Vietnamese tea and coffee products.

Speaking at the May 24 opening ceremony, Vietnamese Consul General in Perth Le Viet Duyen recalled the milestones in bilateral relations in the fields of politics, economics, education, science-technology, security and defence.

The exhibition, which remains open to visitors until May 31, reflects both sides’ attention to boosting their cultural exchange and promotion in order to deepen their comprehensive cooperation, stated Duyen.

Narrogin Mayor Leigh Ballard said that he hopes this kind of event will be organised regularly in Narrogin and the city will be twinned with another Vietnamese locality in the time to come.

The Vietnamese Consul General also took this occasion to inform participants of the tense developments in the East Sea, after China illegally placed its Haiyang Shiyou-981 drilling rig deep inside Vietnam’s continental shelf and exclusive economic zone.

China’s act gravely violates international law as well as threatens peace and stability in the region and maritime security and safety in the East Sea through which about 30-40 percent of the world’s total goods are being transported, he added.-VNA
