The Australian Embassy in Hanoi hosted a round-table conference on May 29 on developing vocational skills for Vietnamese workers, which is a key content in bilateral cooperation.

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Hugh Borrowman stressed that vocational skills training is crucial to Vietnam’s development in the future.

On his part, Cao Van Sam, Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Vocational Training under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said that unskilled employees impacted negatively on productivity, income and business performance.

He highlighted Vietnam’s vocational skill strategy for 2020 with a 2030 vision, which indicates a number of measures to foster international cooperation in this field.

During the conference, participants discussed the priorities, challenges and strategies involved in encouraging businesses to support the reform of vocational education and training in Vietnam.

The Australian Government has provided 1 million AUD (765,000 USD) in financial support to a vocational training reform project in several Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, according to the Australian Embassy.-VNA
