Australia will carry out several more projects involving security, defence, education and healthcare in the Mekong Delta, the country’s Consul General in Vietnam John McAnulty has said.

McAnulty had a working session with Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho, Truong Quang Hoai Nam, in the city on June 19.

He said he is delighted to see the positive changes recorded by the delta region since the Australia-funded My Thuan Bridge was built 15 years ago.

McAnulty expected that once the construction of Cao Lanh Bridge, which is also financed by Australia, is completed, it will generate more economic benefits for local people.

In 2013, Australia equipped Can Tho Hospital with the most cutting-edge laser eye equipment, which can be easily brought to remote, rural areas to perform operations for poor people, the Australian official recalled, promising to send more modern equipment to the facility in the future.

In education, he revealed that Australian students will take courses in Can Tho University in 2015 – the beginning year of a student exchange programme between the two countries.-VNA
