Bac Giang, Ba Ria-Vung Tau close tourist spots to curb COVID-19 spread

The northern province of Bac Giang and the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau have closed tourist attractions as part of efforts to prevent the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) from spreading.

Hanoi (VNA) – The northern province of Bac Giangand the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau have closed tourist attractions aspart of efforts to prevent the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) fromspreading.

Bac Giang has shut all historic relics and touristattractions and suspended cinemas, theatres, bars, massage and karaoke parloursand gaming centres across the province starting from 0:00am on March 23.

The province has advised that local weddings should bescaled down to a small group of family and friends or rescheduled, the chairmanof the provincial People’s Committee said.

Funerals should take place with infection control practicesstrictly in place, the notice said, adding that procedures should be simplifiedand shortened.

The province has also requested local residents to minimizenon-essential ceremonies or mass gatherings, while the provincial Departmentof Transport has halted all car and motorcycle driving tests until furthernotice.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau, the provincial People’s Committee hastemporarily closed Con Dao Island, a popular tourist attraction, to visitorsstarting March 24. Islanders are advised to avoid non-essential travel in andout of Con Dao while local authorities have requested all travellers to fill inhealth declaration forms.

People who fail to comply with the rules will be strictlypunished.

The resort island welcomes about 3,000 domestic and foreignvisitors every day. The move is a precautionary measure against the COVID-19outbreak since the island is located far from the mainland and has limited healthpersonnel and facilities.

Air travel surges to 1.68 million passengers during holiday periods

Domestic air travel accounted for 675,140 passengers and 3,400 tonnes of cargo, marking declines of 7.5% and 11.6%, respectively. In contrast, international transport showed robust growth, surpassing 1 million passengers and reaching 24,050 tonnes of cargo, up 10% in passenger numbers and 10.6% in cargo volume.

Vietnam records 2 million foreign arrivals in April

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) said the figures highlight the country’s rising profile as a safe, stable and increasingly compelling destination. It is the first time Vietnam has surpassed 2 million foreign arrivals for four straight months, and the first time the January – April tally has reached 8.8 million.

Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang lead Thai tourists’ searches

Data from the online booking platform Agoda shows that Ho Chi Minh City recorded the highest growth in searches from Thailand, reaching 134%, followed by Da Nang with a 58% increase. Other destinations such as Hong Kong (China) saw more modest growth.
