The northern province of Bac Giang will spend almost 18 billion VND from the State budget and the locality’s counterpart funds to develop a chicken raising project in line with Vietnamese Good Animal Husbandry Practices (VietGAHP) standards in Yen The district.

According to the development assistance scheme for raising “Yen The Chicken” in the period of 2013-2015 that was recently approved by Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee, the project will be carried out in Dong Tam, Tam Tien and Tien Thang communes.

The province will support three establishments producing breeding chickens, which have a capacity of 100,000 eggs per year and above in order to produce good quality breeding chickens.

One hundred households in the three communes will be equipped with knowledge and given technical assistance so they can produce 350,000 high-quality breeding chickens meeting the requirements of restaurants and supermarkets.

In addition, the project will assist chicken farmers in promoting and seeking consumer markets for their products.

Currently, about 4 million chickens are raised in Yen The district. Since early this year, the district has provided approximately 6.85 million chickens to markets across the country.

Recently, the “Ga doi Yen The” or Yen The Chicken product produced by Giang Son Trade and Service Joint Stock Company was named as one of ASEAN's best foods to be honoured at an event in Singapore next month, which aims to recognise entrepreneurs in the ASEAN region contributing to environmental sustainability.

Last year, the product was honoured as a "trusted product" in a survey by the National Office of Intellectual Property and Intellectual Magazine in addition to being recognised as the "Capital's Trusted Trademark" by the Hanoi Association for Science and Technology and the Vietnam Association for Customer Protection.-VNA
