The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu exported 14,800 tonnes of aquatic products in the first four months of this year and earned 115 million USD, representing a year-on-year increase of 42 percent.

In April alone, the locality shipped abroad 4,690 tonnes of frozen shrimp, raking in 38 million USD.

The result was attributed to enterprises’ efforts in improving their processing and manufacturing process to better the quality of product and reduce the production cost.

Bac Lieu’s aquatic products maintain their firm foothold in international markets, satisfying importers’ regulations on food security and technical requirements.

In April, the locality enjoyed an aquatic farming and catching output of nearly 23,000 tonnes. The figure pushed the total result of Bac Lieu in this year’s January-April period to 73,000 tonnes, a 3 percent rise over the same period in 2013, helping the province complete nearly 27 percent of its yearly target.

The yielding of 20,300 tonnes of shrimp has been particularly positive, helping solve a shortage for export in the locality.

Currently, Bac Lieu has more than 100,000 hectares of shrimp farm and 495 fishing vessels.-VNA
