Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Sun Suoxiang on Jan. 18 held a banquet to celebrate the 60 th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations (Jan. 18).
Among the partcipants to the celebrations were National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung.
Addressing the event, the ambassador said the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Vietnam are ushering in a new phase of development.
Political relations between the two countries have become closer, economic and trade cooperation more diversified and cultural exchanges accelerated, the Chinese ambassador said. Lingering issues from history have been addressed step by step and the two countries are closely coordinating in international and regional arenas, he added.
According to the ambassador, 2010 would be a significant year for both nations as it not only marks the 60 th founding anniversary of bilaterla relations but it is also identified by leaders of both sides as the first “China-Vietnam Friendship Year.”
Various activities will be held in both countries to bolster mutual understanding and friendship between the two people, ambassador Suoxiang said.
The Chinese ambassador affirmed the importance that the Party, Government and people of China attach to developing cooperative and friendly relations with the Party, Government and people of Vietnam .
Deputy PM Nguyen Sinh Hung meanwhile said the Party, State and people of Vietnam are always grateful to the Chinese people for their support during Vietnam ’s struggle for national independence in the past and current cause for national construction.
China was the first country in the world to set up diplomatic ties with Vietnam , opening up a new chapter in the traditional cooperation and friendship between the two people, he said.
He reiterated that developing the traditional friendship with the Party, Government and people of China remains a priority in Vietnam ’s foreign policy. He expressed belief that bilateral relations would be further developed given mutual efforts from both sides.
On the same day, Ho Chi Minh City also hosted a meeting to mark the event.
“As a major economic and cultural centre of Vietnam , Ho Chi Minh City will increase cooperation with Chinese localities for mutual development,” Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Council Huynh Thanh Lap said.
China’s Consul General Xu Mingliang, meanwhile expressed his wish that Ho Chi Minh City would participate in a world trade fair to be held in Shanghai in the upcoming time so as to increase cooperation between the two cities.
At present, more than 242 countries and international organisations have registered for participation in the fair, which is estimated to draw more than 70 million visitors.
Earlier from Jan. 13-18, authorities and state agencies, organisations, enterprises and dwellers in Vietnam ’s northern mountainous province of Lang Son and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China held numerous activities to mark the anniversary.
Together with the development of bilateral relations between Vietnam and China , the relations between the two bordering areas have ever been promoted in all fields, particularly after the completion of the border demarcation landmark planting across the borderline./.
