Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Phu Trong has urged the southern province of Ben Tre to apply its revolutionary spirit to the current process of national construction and defence.

On April 27, the NA leader and a delegation of the parliament paid a working visit to the southern province of Ben Tre on the 35th anniversary of the Liberation of South Vietnam.

Visiting Dinh Thuy commune, Mo Cay Nam district, the cradle of the Dong Khoi Ben Tre movement, Trong and his delegation paid a tribute at a monument in memory of 506 martyrs and 36 heroic mothers who have passed away.

He met and presented gifts to Heroic Mothers, elderly revolutionary veterans and families, who rendered great service to the nation.

He visited the An Thanh – Khanh Thanh Tan craft village in Mo Cay Nam district, which produces coco fibre. He also paid a call at Binh Thang commune in Binh Dai district, which has great potential in aquaculture and fishing.

Chairman Trong congratulated local authorities and people on their achievements in socio-economic development, poverty reduction and caring for their families, by which they have rendered great service to the nation.

He asked the province to focus on agriculture and choose suitable plants and animals for each locality in order to bring about economic efficiency. He highlighted the success of the model for growing black shrimp in marshy and salted areas in the province as a replacement for growing low-yield rice.

Besides creating favourable conditions for economic sectors to develop, the NA leader told the province to pay special attention to Party building.

Finally, Trong expressed his wish that Ben Tre people continue their tradition of solidarity to join hands to build the nation./.
