A groundbreaking ceremony for a scientific space complex was held on July 20 in zone II, Ghenh Rang ward, Quy Nhon City in the central province of Binh Dinh.

Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam highlighted the significance of the complex within the province and Vietnam at large.

The country should foster a creative environment, develop science-technology and inspire a passion for science among the public and particularly among the younger generation, he added

Deputy PM Dam praised Chairman of the Meeting Vietnam Association Prof. Tran Thanh Van as well as domestic and foreign scientists for their initiative to implement the scientific space complex project.

Covering over four hectares with total investment of 171.1 billion VND (8.1 million USD), the complex consists of a space model house, a science museum and a general observatory. The construction is expected to be completed in 2017.

Prof. Tran Thanh Van said the complex, the first of its kind in Vietnam, focuses on bringing science to the public. The complex will offer science education and develop science tourism.

Chairman of the Binh Dinh’s People Committee Ho Quoc Dung asserted once operational, the complex will become a highlight of the city in planning and architecture.

He added that the project demonstrates the determination of the Party and State in research activities and scientific application.

An international science conference also began the same day, with the participation of 70 famous domestic and foreign scientists.

The conference will last until July 25.-VNA
