Binh Dinh (VNA) – A ceremony was held at Tram Phau relic site inHoai Nhon district of central Binh Dinh province on February 24 to commemorate the46th anniversary of the Tram Phau massacre and receive a certificaterecognising the site as a provincial historical relic site.
Tram Phau was a medical station built in Hoai Nhon in 1971to treat wounded soldiers of the liberation forces during wartime. On February24-25, 1972, troops of the US army and the US-backed government in SouthVietnam conducted two raids of the site, looking for underground hideouts wheremedical workers and their patients were hiding and dropping grenades inside. Atotal of 17 Vietnamese medical workers and injured soldiers of the liberationforces were killed.
Local authorities built a memorial at the site in 2015 andpreserved the underground hideouts.
Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoai Nhon district CaoThanh Huong said that the recognition of Tram Phau as a provincial historicalsite is an acknowledgement of the great sacrifice of martyrs and a pride ofHoai Nhon locals.-VNA
