Police from the southern province of Binh Duong have brought legal proceedings against 259 people allegedly involved in recent disturbance in the locality, according to sources on May 22.

They are charged with causing public disorder, destroying and appropriating assets, handling stolen property, and resisting on-duty officials across 117 cases.

The police and authorised agencies are preparing to bring to trial other suspects who were also involved in the disturbances in local industrial parks recently.

The suspects are believed to have taken advantage of industry workers’ parades to protest China’s illegal placement of an oil rig in Vietnam’s waters to commit the crimes.-VNA
