Vietnam earns around 2 billion USD each year from agro-forestry and fisheries development, that is, the total sum of its exploitable biological resources.

In mountainous areas, food and medicine are often derived directly from the environment (or biosphere) and for many, their main source of income may come from biological resources as well.

Such use of biological assets accounts for more than 40 percent of the world’s GDP and satisfies 80 percent of the needs of the poor.

Biological resources not only directly provide food and medicine, construction materials and energy but are also valuable in advancing biological technology and production in the agro-forestry and fisheries sectors.

These natural resources are an important element in ensuring Vietnam ’s food security as well as its hunger eradication and poverty reduction strategies./.
